China Global Television Network (CGTN) recently published an article titled "How does a Chinese village achieve carbon neutrality?" to introduce promotion of net-zero carbon emissions in Fuxing New Village, a little village in Beiqu Community, Zhongshan's Xiaolan Town. Hua Chunying, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reposted and commented on the article on an overseas social network platform, saying: "As a good example of a NetZero carbon community in China, Fuxing Village offers just a glimpse of what China is doing."
Fuxing New Village is located in Beiqu Community of Xiaolan Town. There are 135 residential buildings in the village with a permanent population of about 600. Fuxing New Village began to explore a low carbon emissions strategy in 2014 with the support of the Xiaolan Town Government and the Xiaolan Low Carbon Development & Promotion Center. It was recognized as the only community with net-zero carbon emission in Guangdong in 2017, and the only wholly green community in Guangdong in 2018.
"The Xiaolan Town Government and the Xiaolan Low Carbon Development & Promotion Center will partner up with Guangzhou Development Group Incorporated to further improve the low carbon efforts of Fuxing New Village and jointly promote low carbon efforts across Xiaolan Town," said He Yiqing, director of the Xiaolan Low Carbon Development & Promotion Center.
He Yiqing stated that the experience of Fuxing New Village would also be applied on Zhupai Island and Modao Island in Shenwan Town. As more pilot projects are implemented, more opportunities will be explored for Zhongshan to limit its carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.
