Zhongshan Culture & Art Center was invested by Zhongshan government with the municipal press and publication bureau, the municipal construction bureau, and the municipal planning bureau taking the leading role in its construction which officially began on Aug. 3, 2003 and was finished by the end of 2005. The center covers a total area of 68599.58 square meters, 43431.4 square meters being the construction area. It has 350 parking spots in total, 121 on the ground and 229 in the underground garage.

The investment of center, comsisting of a performance center and a training center, went up to 400 million yuan. The performance center is a 4-storey building, covering a construction area of 23879.87 square meters (including the 4392.39 square meters of the basement). It includes 1400-seat large theaters 600-seat small theaters and an audio-visual presentation room with a capacity of 100 people. The training cengter has a construction area of 19551.53 square meters (including the 8750.5 square meters of the basement), five floors above the ground, and one floor under the ground. The training center offers training and performing places for programs of painting, musical instruments, and dramas. Besides, it includes a movie city with 3 cinemas, an exhibition hall and more. Facilities like an open cultural plaza, an art gallery and a café are also available.
