The Zhongshan municipal government recently announced the addition of 10 historic buildings citywide.
Among them, the former assembly site of the Zhongshan Independent Regiment when Zhongshan was liberated, also known as Da'aoxi School, is rated as a municipal revolutionary site. On the morning of October 30, 1949, the Zhongshan Independent Regiment assembled at Da'aoxi School prior to marching toward Shiqi.
The Diefang House is the ancestral residence of Sun Diefang, leader of the Guangzhou-Hankou Railway labor movement. Meanwhile, the Cheng Duchun House and the old Nursing Home were both donated by overseas Chinese, embodying the deep-seated patriotic affection and love for their hometown.
The Baishihuan People's Hall was built in 1974. It once served as the venue for the township government, large meetings, and entertainment activities such as movies and Cantonese opera performances.
The Longtouhuan Village memorial archway an advertisement for the love and peace spirits Dr Sun Yat-sen advocated. The other 4 ancestral halls and folk houses are typical traditional Lingnan-style buildings during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
As of now, there are 408 municipal historical buildings across Zhongshan, ranking second among prefecture-level cities province-wide.
