A statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen has been unveiled at a ceremony in front of the administration building of Zhongshan Institute. Dr. Lily Sun, president of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Foundation for Peace and Education and granddaughter of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the presence of Vice Mayor Tang Ying and president Ma Zheng of Zhongshan Institute, did the honor of unveiling the statue.
Other honored guests attending the ceremony included leaders from related departments, leaders and student delegates of Zhongshan Institute. The ceremony was presided over by Cheng Xiaoyu, party secretary of Zhongshan Institute.
President Ma Zheng expressed heartfelt thanks and respects to Dr. Lily Sun. He said in his address that Dr. Sun Yat-sen, as a great revolutionary pioneer, enjoys a high reputation among Chinese people. The bronze statue was specially commissioned to “recognize Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s contribution to the 1911 Revolution and the realization of democracy in China”. Ma hoped that Dr. Sun’s spirit could inspire more young students to forge ahead.
Dr. Lily Sun, although in her 70s, is still healthy, energetic and elegant. In her address, she recalled her grandfather Dr. Sun Yat-sen, expressed thanks for the research work Zhongshan Institute put in on Dr. Sun, and encouraged college students to carry forward Dr. Sun’s patriotism.
Lily Sun and Vice Mayor Tang Ying presented flowers to the statue.
It is learned that Lily Sun donated 100 bronze statues of Dr. Sun Yat-sen around the world. The one unveiled this time is the 54th.
