Occupying an area of 26.6 hectare (399 acres), Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park is composed of two parts: the Memorial Zone (accomplished in 1994) and Tourism Zone (accomplished in 1996).
The memorial zone features a grand bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, facing north and surrounded with a hill and three gardens. The hill is covered with 999 cypresses, which means “living in memory forever”. Three gardens refer respectively to pine garden, bamboo garden and plum garden. The three durable plants of winter represent the noble character and sterling integrity of Mr. Sun Yat-sen.
The tourism zone is themed on “Xiangshan”(Fragrant Hills), adorned by various colorful plants and fragrant flowers. The rockery, the waterfall, the pavilion all contribute to make tourist linger in the park. What also merits attraction is the children’s play area, which takes the design of concentric circles. The center is the image of children of Han nationality, Man nationality, Mongolian nationality, Hui nationality, and Zhang nationality, representing the unity of nationalities.
