Founded in 1934, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Middle School of Guangdong Province was honoured as one of the first provincial key schools in 1994. In the year of 2007, with the highest scores in the province, the school passed the test for national model schools. The school has a long history and pleasant scenery. After being identified as Guangdong provincial cultural relics, the old buildings of the school were declared by the government as national cultural relics.

The old proverb said that phoenix resides on the big tree and outstanding wood is made up for pillars. In compliance of Sun Yat-sen ’ wish of training talents for the country, the school insists on the motto that interests of the country comes first and contributing oneself to the human being, and has nurtured numerous talents with Zhongshan spirits. The school has made numerous achievements in aspects of the Entrance exams, various competitions, literary art and the training of all-round students as well as campus cultural construction.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Middle School is becoming more and more mature. It has many provincial and national honors, such as, the national outstanding unit in educational system, the national outstanding unit of morality work in primary and middle school, the national outstanding unit of mass sports, the national outstanding unit of sports and sanitation, the national model for working environment, the national green school, Guangdong outstanding unit, Guangdong excellent unit, Guangdong model school for management by law, Guangdong green school, Guangdong safe campus, Guangdong model school of students’ mental health, Guangdong outstanding school for modern educational technology, one of Zhongshan top ten model units, the municipal award for its teaching quality and for high scores in the national entrance exams.

The school is under the expanded construction in order to play a more important role and increase more academic degrees and education quality. After the school’s expansion, the school will have as many as 108 classes and more than 5,500 students.
