The 43rd annual conference of the World Association of Chinese Newspapers was hosted by Kwong Wah Newspaper from Malaysia, which celebrated its 100 anniversary yesterday. In the banquet to celebrate the event last night, Fang Bingzhuo, the director and editor-in-chief of Zhongshan Daily, presented gifts and best wishes from the hometown of Dr. Sun Yat-sen to Kwong Wah Newspaper.
Kwong Wah Newspaper, founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Penang on Dec. 20th, 1910, is the most time-honored Chinese newspaper in the world. As time passed by, this newspaper has changed from a revolutionary Chinese newspaper focusing on China, into the newspaper of the Chinese in Penang and finally into the mouthpiece of the Chinese in northern Malaya, pioneering in the culture. It not only carried forward the Chinese culture, but also effectively guided the Chinese to merging into the local society, advocating harmony of races and promoting the fraternity and friendship of races. Playing a unique role in a special environment, it has become the bridge between the government and the people and between China and Malaysia.
