2010 “Zhongshan Cup” National College Speech Competition was held in Zhongshan Institute, UESTC on June 12. In the two-day competition, 206 competitors from 62 universities will show their talents of speech. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Li Yanjie, one of the four national speakers, gave an impressive and passionate model class to those young competitors. Qiu Shuhong, Director-general of Zhongshan Publicity Department and Vice Mayor Tang Ying were present at the opening ceremony.

'He encouraged competitors to be equipped with traditional culture and wide sphere of knowledge, instead of merely skills of eloquence. Students should transcend themselves and the “down-to-earth” reality, and realize their own unique values.

In the two-hour lecture, the professor impressed all audiences with his knowledge, his wisdom and his humor. He gave his own pieces of calligraphy to students as gifts to encourage them to update themselves. This old respectable professor stood for two hours with his disease, and this spirit and perseverance won thunderous applauses from the audiences. The speech ended with happy laughers and exciting tears.
