Back to Zhongshan the day before yesterday, Ho Wai Lim started his four-day family-visit and business investigation trip. Ho Wai Lim is the chairman of Sun Yat-sen Fund, chairman of World Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, and chairman of the board of Hong Kong Huibao Investment Group. It is learned that William Ho has been busy with the protection of “Zhongshan Guildhall” in Beijing in the past 30 years. At present, the guildhall is under restoration and is applying for the state-level cultural relics protection unit. Xue Xiaofeng, secretary of the Zhongshan Municipal Committee of the CPC, met Ho Wai Lim yesterday and thanked him for his long-term unremitting efforts.
Covering an area of over 4,000 square meters, “Zhongshan Guildhall” in Beijing is situated on ZhuChao Street in Xicheng District. Formerly called “Xiangshan Guildhall”, the guildhall was established by Xiangshan County fellows. In the summer of 1912, Sun Yat-sen met guests at the lounge of the guildhall. After the founding of New China, the guildhall has gradually become a tenement yard with about 400 households lived in at its height.
After constant efforts, the guildhall is restoring its original appearance. Ho Wai Lim hoped that the guildhall will become a base of patriotic education. He also introduced the activities organized by the Sun Yat-sen Fund to commemorate the centenary of the 1911 Revolution such as “Zhongshan Cup” table tennis match, large-scale arts evening party, memorial forum, and so on. Ho also learned about the memorial activities held in Zhongshan and expressed the intention of cooperation.
Xue Xiaofeng hoped that Ho could exert his family influence and influence as a leader of overseas Chinese associations to extend cooperation with hometown in economic and cultural areas.
