1. China Choral Festival: a grand gathering of “nightingales” at Hometown of Sun Yat-sen

The song "Ode to the Motherland" is chorused at the end of the award ceremony of the 11th China Choral Festival.

In August, 2012, the 11th China Choral Festival is held in Zhongshan. During the festival, 2,300 “nightingales” display China’s highest choral level. Zhongshan, the host city, selects 6 teams to the festival.

The increasing influence of Zhongshan Choral Base in South China is due to its policy of spreading fine arts to ordinary people and to communities.

On the evening of Aug.4, 2012, 6 choral teams chorus for villagers and non-local Zhongshan at Mingzhu Culture Corridor in the Torch Zone.

At the choral festival, the 6 Zhongshan teams win 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals, which greatly promotes Zhongshan’s choral culture.

2. The initiation of “School for CPPCC members”

On Mar.29, the "School for Members of CPPCC Zhongshan Municipal Committee”, which is jointly built by CPPCC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, Jinan University, and Zhongshan College, UESTC, is unveiled at the Party School of CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee. The school opens to public, and has fluid locations, schedules, and curriculums. Various lectures have been held by the school in the past year. The "School for Members of CPPCC Zhongshan Municipal Committee” has provided a platform for citizens and CPPCC members to communicate with and learn from each other.

3. The Morality-cultivation activity

On Sept. 20, the morality-cultivation program “Propriety in Public Life” put forward by CPPCC Zhongshan Municipal Committee is awarded the title “Featured Morality-cultivation Program of Zhongshan” at the mobilization meeting for the 10th“Citizen’s Moral Awareness Day” and Morality-cultivation Activity of Zhongshan.

4. Listening to the wise

In Zhongshan, attending lectures has become a part of citizens’ life.

In the past year, more than 100 lectures covering various subjects are held in Zhognshan.

In 2012, many celebrities including Wang Meng, Liu Yong, Gao Xiaosong, Meng Man, Yuan Tengfei, Liao Xinzhong, Qian Wenzhong, and Su Hei have lectured in Zhongshan. The lectures covere morality-cultivation, culture, youth, history, psychology, and so on.
The entering of lectures into citizens’ lives arouses their pursuit of knowledge, their habit of thinking, and their interest in reading. Citizens are enjoying the pleasure of thought communication.

5. Amateur art troupes: A new leading role in art spreading

Amateur Art Troupe of Workers in Sanxiang gives benefit performances in enterprises.

Amateur art troupes in Zhongshan, spread culture and art enjoyment to every corner of the city with great mobility, playing an active leading role in bringing culture and art to people.

Those amateur art troupes always adhere to the principle of amusing local audience and sending happiness to people from all walks of life. Amateur Art Troupe of Workers in Sanxiang is one of such troupes that aim to perform for grass roots. Other troupes like Xiaolan Amateur Troupe, Happy Time Light Music Troupe, Shaxi Xingbao Troupe, Rainbow Troupe, Aged Cadres Troupe … are widely recognized by citizens. They perform in a way that greatly accepted by masses and voice the thoughts of masses, which have gradually transformed themselves from recreational groups to leading roles of spreading social culture.

6. Assiduous literary creation lights up Zhongshan

The literary creation in Zhongshan is fruitful in 2012.
The large-scale multimedia symphony “Sun Yat-sen”, which consists of nine chapters: Rising from Cuiheng Village, Daring Forerunner of Revolution 1911, Nation-building Strategies, Three People's Principles, Fraternity, The Whole World as One Community, Zhongshan Road, Zhongshan Spirit, World Trend, has demonstrated Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s thoughts and spirits in different periods by various styles of classic, folk and pop music. The author of the lyrics of the symphony is Qiu Shuhong, the Chairman of Zhongshan CPPCC and famous poet.

Symphony “Myth China” is written by Zheng Jisi and composed by Gan Lin and is on stage in summer 2012 respectively in Beijing, Guangzhou and Zhongshan. Zhongshan’s cultural soil, in Zheng’s words, nourishes a free and open atmosphere for literature creation, in which writers are free to express what they want in their mind.

Qiu Shuhong and Zheng Jisi are such active representatives in literary creation. They are officials and leading writers in Zhongshan as well who devote themselves to constituting solid culture foundation and advancing socialist culture construction. They add colorful local hues to the literary creation in Zhongshan.
