In recent years, Xiaolan Town, with its profound 860 year history and cultural endowments, has put efforts in creating the Guangfu Culture Protection Experimental Zone to develop a vibrant ecological cultural space.

As a provincial protection zone, the Guangfu Culture Protection Experimental Zone in Xiaolan Town is planned to be built with the theme of "Millennium Water Landscape, Oriental Chrysanthemum City". Featuring Xiaolan's chrysanthemum culture, river network and Lingnan-style buildings, it aims to connect Guangfu-style folk activities and arts, including dragon-boat racing, embroidery, lantern making, water Piao-se and painting and calligraphy through the annual Chrysanthemum Fair event to make it a vibrant cultural ecology space.

At present, Guangdong Province has one national cultural ecology protection experimental zone and 9 provincial ones, which cover Hakka, Guangfu, Chaoshan, Leizhou, Yao, overseas Chinese hometown and Cantonese opera cultures.
