A conference was held in Zhongshan on January 28 to deploy ecological and environmental protection work for 2022 and analyse the environmental situation during 2021 Q4. The conference introduced Zhongshan's achievements in prevention and control of air, water and soil pollution last year.
In 2021, all six air quality indicators in Zhongshan met standards and Zhongshan's comprehensive air quality index (AQI) ranked 14th among 168 key cities in China. Zhongshan's AQI was 3.01, with an 89.9% rate of reaching the standard.
Municipal centralized drinking water sources maintained a 100% quality standard. The total length of rivers investigated in Zhongshan exceeded 2,244 kilometers. More than 60,000 improper sewage outlets into rivers were preliminarily identified.
