Around 1:00 am on March 20, ships "AVIC 935" and "Feng Nian 618", loaded with 76 shipping containers, left the cargo berth of Zhongshan Port after customs supervision procedures and headed for Hong Kong.
Since the implementation of temporary traffic control on March 18, Torch Development Zone has made every effort to ensure local production while strictly implementing epidemic prevention and control measures. At present, the daily throughput of the international cargo berth of Zhongshan Port has returned to the normal level.
Chen Jingzhong, general manager of Zhongshan Port & Shipping Group Co Ltd, stated that in response to requirements from the Office of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Headquarters in Torch Development Zone, Zhongshan Port & Shipping Group immediately applied for the exit-entry permit to satisfy the material transportation needs during the traffic control period.
To avoid overstocking, Zhongshan Port Freight Joint Venture Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Zhongshan Port & Shipping Group, applied to the Customs to extend its operating hours; The company also has tried its best to guarantee its supply to Hong Kong.
During the epidemic, the berth is open 24/7 and Zhongshan Port Customs also has extended its working hours with staff available all day long to ensure normal transportation.
The whole port area has worked tirelessly to ensure production and protect against the epidemic. An electronic fence has been set up at the berth to monitor the surroundings of the ships through infrared measuring. A waterfront line was set up to disinfect goods, and documents submitted by crew members will also be disinfected.
According to Zhongshan Port Customs, since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Torch Development Zone on March 18, there have been 89 inbound and outbound ships and 7,690 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers have been loaded in Zhongshan Port.
