The free trade agreement between China and Nicaragua came into effect on January 1.
Recently, Zhongshan Customs issued the first batch of 23 certificates of origin for exports under the agreement, involving refrigerators worth about 1.9 million yuan. With these C/Os, Guangdong Homa Refrigerator Co can enjoy a preferential tariff reduction of about 28,500 yuan.
"Refrigerators are Homa's main export products. We have secured the championship for refrigerator exports in China for 15 consecutive years. Nicaragua is a significant overseas market in Central America for our company. In 2023, we exported nearly 30,000 units of products worth nearly 25 million yuan, and we anticipate a steady growth in export volume this year," said Feng Changjiang, Homa's international marketing chief, adding that the agreement has brought real benefits to the company.
With the implementation of the China-Nicaragua agreement, the tariff on refrigerators exported from China to Nicaragua will decrease 1%-1.5% annually. The policy is estimated to bring about preferential customs tariff savings of approximately 370,000 yuan for Homa's clients in Nicaragua in 2024.
