Zhou Xiaohong is now the Dean of School of Social and Behavioral Sciences of Nanjing University as well as a professor and Ph.D. adviser, who is granted the National Award for Distinguished Teacher in 2009.

The discussion concerning about the middle class has become a hot topic among both sociologists and ordinary people in China. Historian Tang Degang said that Americans were born middle class. Walter Whitman, an American poet in the 19th century, gave similar remarks that the middle class was the most valuable one of any community. However, how to define the middle class in China? Has the middle class already come into being? Then who is consisted in the middle class?
