General Introduction

Guzhen Town is located in the northwest of zhongshan, at the intersection of Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Foshan. As an important transportation hub, the town is 80 kilometers away from Guangzhou, and it takes only 75 minutes by boat to Hongkong and Macao. The town consists of Guzhen, Caobu and Haizhou with a total area of 47.8 square kilometers. The permanent resident population is 68,000 containing about 100,000 non-local residents.

After 20 years’ effort, the town has been changed from an agricultural economic town to an industrial town with obvious regional characteristic economy, which can be described as “lighting and electrical apparatus of various kinds, plants and flowers of nationwide planting”. The active individual economy and private economy take up 95% of the total local economy, ranging from lighting and lamps, plastic and machinery processing, to building decoration materials, hardware & lock-making and chemical painting.

At present, lighting industry is the leading industry and pillar economy of Guzhen and the town has become the largest lighting manufacturing base and wholesale market since 1982. After 20 year’s development, the town now has become the biggest lighting specialized production base and wholesale market nationwide with more than 4,000 lighting factories & enterprises and 60,000 employees involved. In addition, a 7-kilometer-long “lighting street” has been built with more than 1,000 booths. Guzhen town was honored “the Lighting City of China” because of the prosperous lighting industry. The lighting products occupy 60% market share in China, and they enjoy high popularity both at home and abroad for good quality and reasonable price, exported to 99 countries and regions including Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Japan, North America and Europe.

Up until now, Guzhen town has successfully held the largest-scale lighting fairs respectively in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2005 and 2006, getting ideal economic and social benefits to pave a solid way for further development of the industry. Moreover, the fast development of lighting industry also encourages the development of hardware, plastic processing and related industries. That’s why the town was commented “changing a commodity into a big market” by Li Changchun in 1998, who used to be the provincial party committee secretary of Guangdong, and now the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee.

For these years, the town has won lots of awards, such as “First-batch Guangdong Sanitary Star” in 1992, “National Advanced Town in Party Member Audiovisual Education ” in 1994, “National Best Investment Environmental Town” in 1995, “Guangdong International Lighting Town” in 1998, “National Satellite Town” in 1999, “Guangdong Education Town” in 2004, and “National Civilized Town” in 2005 and so on.

Now, Guzhen town is sparing no efforts to create favorable investment environment and head for further construction.
