The construction of XDMicro (Zhongshan) Optoelectronic Semiconductor Co Ltd's production base in Minzhong Disitrict officially started on September 5. It is another important milestone for the company after its factory area in Sanjiao Town was put into use.
For the Minzhong base, a total of 50 mu of land was allocated. It can produce over 3 million LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) microdisplay chips a year upon completion and will serve as XDMicro's production base, reserve and testing base for new technologies and innovation base.
XDMicro is a globally-leading provider of new-type micro-display solutions. As a professional optoelectronic semiconductor chip maker, it is mainly engaged in the R&D and production of LCOS micro-display chips, driver chips and optical engines.
The recently started "LCOS Chip Filling, Packaging, Sealing and Testing and Optic-Mechanical Module R&D and Production Base" project includes a production workshop, an R&D experiment center, warehouses and other supporting facilities. It aims at developing and producing micro-display related products such as LCOS micro-display screens, driver chips and optical-mechanical modules and selling them to the whole world.
Dr Huang Zhenchao, general manager of XDMicro Zhongshan company, explained the reason why they chose Zhongshan. First, Zhongshan's location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, possesses great geographical advantages; Second, Zhongshan provides many benefits to new local producers in the photoelectric industry cluster, and the settlement of XDMicro in Zhongshan will improve the industrial chain; Third, the government of Zhongshan provides strong support and services.
