The seven-day Huangpu Preserved Meat Intangible Cultural Heritage Food, Culture & Tourism Week 2023 opened at the Huangpu International Convention and Exhibition Center on November 28.
Covering an area of 8,000 square meters, the event sets up 170 booths and has invited 18 local preserved meat makers to participate, including Wing Yip, Taihe and Defu. Preserved meat chefs will showcase their skills of hand-making Chinese sausages at the event.
The sponsors will also organize a skills competition of Cantonese preserved meat making.
The Huangpu Preserved Meat Industry has a history of more than 140 years. It now has more than 60 kinds of products, with an annual output of over 200,000 tons and an output value of 3.7 billion yuan, driving the output value of upstream and downstream industries to exceed 10 billion yuan.
Traditional Huangpu Preserved Meat Making has been recognized as a provincial representative intangible cultural heritage item. As a national protected geographic indication project, Huangpu Preserved Meat's market share in Cantonese preserved meat ranks first nationwide for 10 consecutive years.
