As night falls, the Zhongshan Porridge Factory situated by the Qianshuihu Lake in Gangkou Town comes bustling. Diners chat with others while enjoying delicacies.
This special restaurant, which opened during the National Day holiday, quickly went viral on social media platforms such as Xiaohongshu and Douyin for its old factory-like industrial style. Diners not only are attracted by the seafood porridge here, but also love the old factory scenes that are suitable for taking photos.
An old power plant, which was left idle for 20 years, has been reborn to be a landmark combining food, camping and music, with the efforts of a group of young people.
Located on Xinggang Road, the Gangkou Power Plant was the only private power plant in the town. It started construction on January 1, 1989 and was put into operation on September 1 of the same year.
In 2004, the power plant was shut down permanently and has been left idle since then. "Last year, we found a new way to renovate this old factory by taking advantage of the city's 'industrial park renovation' scheme," said Su Jianzhao, a child of a factory owner.
The Zhongshan Porridge Factorywas rebuilt on the 6,000-square-meter power plant site, with the production workshop turned into a spacious dining hall, the outdoor area into a dining area for self-service porridge-based hot pot, drinks, camping and live band shows, and the dormitory area into a private home cuisine restaurant that offers customized services.
The Zhongshan Porridge Factory opened on October 1 and received over 5,000 visitors from the Greater Bay Area during the National Day holiday with its unique dining environment and fresh, tasty food.
