Point-based school enrollment policy for migrant population in Zhongshan adjusted

The municipal government announced the new version of point-based school enrollment policy for migrant population on its website on March 15.

According to the new policy, floating personnel, who has stable job in Zhongshan City, can apply for point-based school enrollment if he/she has accumulated 30 points or more. They only need to have a residence permit, and they have paid social security for three months in Zhongshan.

The scoring standard is also adjusted, according to the announcement. The scoring “threshold” regarding education background is raised: junior college degree holders may gain less points, from previous 60 to current 50; bachelor degree holders may gain more, from previous 80 to current 90 points; personnel with a master degree or higher can gain 150 points; personnel with a junior high school degree, senior high school degree, technical secondary school degree or secondary vocational school degree will no longer gain any points.

In addition, points for professional qualification and technical title holders are raised. Technicians and people with an intermediate technical title can gain 80 points (previously 60 points), while senior technicians and people with a senior technical title can gain 100 points (previously 80 points).

Points for having house property in Zhongshan were reduced to 100 from previous 150.

High-tech enterprise technicians, headquarter enterprise technicians, sanitation workers, and bus staffs can get extra points. There are also additional points for patent innovation, commendation and award, social contribution, tax contribution, social education, and others.

The new policy is effective from now on and will be valid until December 31, 2023.
