To crack down water-related environmental violations and continuously improve Zhongshan's water quality, the Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment launched a special law enforcement action called "The Sword 2021" for sewage treatment organizations this month.

The law enforcement action will be carried out through the end of the year and about 5,000 water treatment-related industrial enterprises in Zhongshan will be inspected. The action focuses on checking the implementation of water pollution prevention and control measures and the operation of water pollution treatment facilities in these enterprises. Zhongshan will be tough on violations such as illegal discharge, leakage emissions, discharge exceeding the standards, high total discharge volume, and the fabrication of monitoring data.

The guiding principle of these measures are to provide assistance and rectify problems. The authorities will give priority to helping enterprises which make minor impunities and urge them to rectify their practices. Enterprises with serious violations, such as illegal discharge, discharge exceeding the standards and fabrication of monitoring data will be investigated and punished according to law, as a warning.
