The China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID) recently released a research report on China's top 100 advanced manufacturing cities for 2023. A total of 10 Guangdong cities made the list, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing and Shantou.
Data shows that the manufacturing industry contributed about half of Zhongshan's economy, with nearly 80,000 industrial enterprises in the city. In 2022, the added value of the Zhongshan's manufacturing industry stood at 160.2 billion yuan, accounting for 44.1% of its GDP (higher than the provincial average of 34.1%).
At present, Zhongshan is home to 5 national "single-product champion" enterprises, 7 provincial "single-product champion" enterprises, 18 MIIT "little giant" enterprises, 458 provincial specialized and sophisticated enterprises producing novel and unique products, 938 innovative SMEs, and 4,966 industrial enterprises above designated size.
According to the report, Zhongshan is vigorously promoting the renovation of industrial parks, and many enterprises are using new industrial space to accelerate technological transformation. The report suggests that cities, like Zhongshan, should focus on sci-tech innovation to enhance the industrial innovation capabilities.
