The Ma'an Island section in Cuiheng New District of the Zhongshan-Zhuhai Intercity Railway commenced preliminary investigation and drilling operations on February 21.
The Zhongshan-Zhuhai Intercity Railway is part of the the Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway. The Zhongshan section, which has a 17.9-km recommended route, connects Cuiheng New District and Nanlang District. The route begins at Xiangshan Station on Ma'an Island in Cuiheng New District, runs south along Ma'an Island and Nanlang District, and ends at the railway Zhuhai North Station in the city of Zhuhai.
Lines and stations on Ma'an Island will all be built underground, including two new stations, Cuiheng New District station and Passenger Port station.
The Zhongshan-Zhuhai Intercity Railway will help realize a 45-minute journey from central Zhongshan to central Guangzhou center, and a 50-minute journey from central Zhongshan to Gongbei Zhuhai (Macao). It will also connect key development areas, such as Nansha New District, Cuiheng New District, Qijiang New Town and Houhuan, in the future.
