On March 3, the first asphalt pavement section of the undersea tunnel at the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project was completed. The road construction of the entire line has entered its final stretch.
The first section starts from the E21 tube in the northbound lane. The road construction of the entire project is planned to complete in April 2024.
Stretching for 24 kilometers, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge comprises one undersea tunnel, two bridges and two artificial islands. This makes it one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects in the world.
The undersea tunnel has a total length of 6.8 kilometers, with a total paving area of 260,000 square meters.
Currently, the project is still moving forward with construction of electromechanical facilities, traffic safety systems, and other ancillary works. It is expected to open to traffic in June.
Upon completion, the travel time from Shenzhen to Zhongshan will be reduced from the current two hours to less than 30 minutes.
