The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge data center (i.e. the data room on the West artificial island) is the first in China's bridge system to adopt seismic isolation technology, which is powered by NPY, a technology company in Zhongshan.
According to simulation tests conducted by the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration, the equipment can reduce the ground motion caused by earthquakes by 80% to 90% and effectively protect the precision equipment in the data center.
NPY is a national high-tech enterprise specialized in earthquake resistance and vibration reduction technologies. In January 2023, the company provided the first batch of products for seismic resistance in the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge tunnels, artificial islands and bridge sections. Later in the same year, the company also provided electromechanical equipment (transformers) and vibration reduction products for air conditioning and completed the installation.
In February 2024, NPY began the design of seismic isolation equipment for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge data center. "The test results show that the device can withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 9", said Wu Daoyu, vice general manager of NPY.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is expected to open in June this year. Led by NPY, the installation of electromechanical equipment and seismic isolation and vibration reduction systems for the bridge will be completed in April.
