The Jingguan Road tunnel on the Zhongshan section of Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway, which is the longest and widest onshore tunnel in Zhongshan, is basically completed. The main work of the Zhongshan section has reached completion, and the ancillary works are 95% finished.
The Jingguan Road tunnel begins on the north side of Lufeng Garden residential community and ends at the east side of the intersection of Changyi Road and South Outer Ring, with a total length of 2,897 meters. It is constructed according to the expressway standards, with a designed speed of 100 km/h and 4 lanes on both directions.
Previously, the Sunzhong tunnel on Changjiang Road, with a total length of 1.26 kilometers, was the longest tunnel in Zhongshan. The South Outer Ring sunken tunnel at the Jinzishan Interchange and the Jingguan Road tunnel are both 40 meters wide, sharing the title of the widest tunnel in Zhongshan.
The Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway is 129.7 kilometers long. The 44.1-kilometer Zhongshan section starts on Ma'an Island in Cuiheng New District, connects with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway through interchanges, spans westward over the West Hengmen Waterway, passes through Nanlang Sub-district, Torch Development Zone, East District, Shaxi Town and Henglan Town, spans over the Modaomen Waterway and finally reaches Jiangmen city.
