The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine on April 19 announced through its official website that 54 places have been  identified as national pilot zones for the inheritance, innovation and development of TCM. Zhongshan made the list along with two other Guangdong cities, Shenzhen and Foshan.

The pilot zones are in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) nationwide and mainly are provincial capitals and prefecture-level cities.

Zhongshan has a sound foundation for TCM development. In recent years, Zhongshan has been increasing its input in TCM development, resulting in a rapid increase of TCM resources for the construction of the four-level TCM service system covering the whole city (all districts, towns and sub-districts, and villages and communities).

As of October 2023, Zhongshan has 216 TCM medical institutions and 2,204 practicing (assistant) physicians. Zhongshan now has two grade-A class-3 TCM hospitals and realizes full coverage of TCM clinics across all town and sub-districts. People can enjoy convenient TCM treatment services and smart decoction and delivery of Chinese herbal medicine.
