The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link (or ShenZhong Link) will connect the metropolitan areas of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the west side of the Pearl River Estuary. Along with the Humen Bridge and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge over the Lingdingyang, it will form an A-shaped transportation network and create a "one-hour commuting circle" within 100 kilometers of the Pearl River Estuary.
In terms of economic scale, the GDP of the three metropolitan areas accounts for about 90% of the total GDP of Guangdong's five major metropolitan areas. Among these, Shenzhen and Guangzhou rank as the top two cities in the province. Although Zhongshan and Jiangmen have smaller economic scales, they possess the advantage of backwardness in terms of land and labor costs.
In terms of population, as of 2022, the three metropolitan areas have a permanent population of over 80 million, accounting for about 75% of the total population of Guangdong's five major metropolitan areas. The opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link will directly or indirectly benefit more than 70% of Guangdong residents.
Once the Zhongshan Terminal of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link open, the journey to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport from Zhongshan will take only 50 minutes. Meanwhile, passengers can check in at the Zhongshan Terminal.
The Bao'an District of Shenzhen and the Cuiheng New District of Zhongshan are also enhancing cultural and tourism cooperation. They plan to attract tourists to attractions such as Yanzhou Academy and Lijingyuan Garden, and prominently promote places like Jia'an Village and Yakou Village. Together, they aim to develop a world-class tourism destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
