After 1.5 years' construction, the Wanqingsha-Xingzhong section project of the Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway (as NanZhong Intercity Railway for short) is progressing smoothly. The Guangzhou section is now 53% completed, and the Zhongshan section is 20% completed.
The 47.6-kilometer NanZhong Intercity Railway connects Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, with its constuction being started on March 30, 2023. The project starts from Wanqingsha Station in Guangzhou's Nansha District and ends at Xingzhong Station in Zhongshan. With a design speed of 160 km/h, it will enable the fastest 45-minute travel between downtown areas of Guangzhou and Zhongshan.
As of now, among the nine stations in the Zhongshan section, one has been topped out (Shiji Road station), six are undergoing civil construction (Xingzhong, Shiqi, Zhongshan, Qijiang New Town, Torch and Xiangshan stations), and two are in pre-construction preparation. Out of the nine sub-sections, three are undergoing civil construction, and the rest are in pre-construction preparation. Four shield machines are tunneling currently.
It is worth noting that the NanZhong Intercity Railway will be connected and operated with the Guangzhou Metro Line 18 and its northern extension, and will be operated cross-line with the Guangzhou Metro Line 22 and its northern extension, enabling quick connection among key hubs such as Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou South Station and Zhongshan Station.
