Expressway creates '30-min transport circle' in GBA
2024-11-05

On October 30 at 3 PM, the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway (NanZhong Expressway) opened to traffic, marking an upgraded connectivity in transport networks between Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Shenzhen. This essential infrastructure not only shortens the physical distance between these three cities but also establishes a comprehensive transport network, boosting regional economic growth.

The NanZhong Expressway extends 32.4 kilometers and consists of the main line and the Nansha Connection Line (Wanqingsha Branch Line). The main line, stretching 21.6 kilometers, begins at the Xinken Interchange on the Nansha Port Expressway and ends at Xinlong Interchange, connecting with the Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway and Guangzhou-Macao Expressway. The Wanqingsha Branch Line spans 10.8 kilometers, originating from the Xinken Interchange and linking with the ShenZhong Link via Wanqingsha Interchange.

That day, car enthusiasts from cities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) gathered at the University Town Toll Station on the Nansha Port Expressway to begin a convoy drive toward the newly opened Nansha segment of the ShenZhong Link. Upon reaching the Nansha Connection Line, participants received special gifts from Nansha, which included essential supplies and the "Nansha Culture and Tourism Passport." With this "passport," drivers could enjoy dining, shopping and leisure discounts at popular sites like Nansha Tianhou Palace, Nansha Wetland Park, and Eighteen Arhats Mountain.

"It's so fast! I got from Nansha onto the expressway and arrived in Shenzhen in less than 20 minutes! It feels faster than my commute home!" Mr Huang, a car club member from Shenzhen, said excitedly.

A spokesperson from Guangzhou Huanlong Expressway Co Ltd noted that with the Nansha section of the ShenZhong Link now open, the network of Nansha Port Expressway has been further optimized. Travelers from Guangzhou's Nansha District can reach Zhongshan's city center in 15 minutes and Shenzhen's Bao'an District within 20 minutes, forming a "30-minute transport circle" in GBA centered on Nansha.

Now recognized as the "first stop linking Guangzhou and Shenzhen", Nansha has shortened travel time between the two cities to under 20 minutes. This step toward integrated transportation within the GBA also enhances cultural and tourism exchanges among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. With scenic attractions and cultural sites more accessible than ever, citizens from nearby cities can easily plan a spontaneous trip to Nansha.
