Guo Wenhai, Party Chief of Zhongshan, met with Ivan Chung Man-kit, Director of the Planning Department of Hong Kong SAR Government, on March 12. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on promoting the cooperation between Hong Kong and Zhongshan.

Guo Wenhai said that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is about to open this year, and the new passenger terminal of Zhongshan Port will soon be put into operation. By then, it will take only 50 minutes to travel from Zhongshan to Hong Kong by water and land. The two places have vast potential for integrated development and strong complementary advantages. It is hoped that Hong Kong and Zhongshan can explore a mechanism for shared growth and win-win cooperation. Efforts should be made to build the Hong Kong-Zhongshan high-quality development cooperation zone, entrepreneurial platforms for Hong Kong youth and sci-tech achievement commercialization bases, deepen high-level cooperation in such fields as green economy, high-end healthcare, culture and tourism and etc, as well as to create excellent conditions for Hong Kong talents to work, start businesses and live in Zhongshan.

Ivan Chung introduced the planning and construction progress of Hong Kong's northern metropolis and Kau Yi Chau artificial islands, adding that the Planning Department will play its role in promoting solid cooperation between Hong Kong and Zhongshan.
