The inaugural meeting of the 4th Council of Zhongshan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries was held on November 9, and Jiang Ji was elected as the president.

The Council hires economist Zheng Yongnian as a consultant, and a team of representative friendly individuals from more than 20 countries as overseas special council members. For the first time, the Association invites foreign affairs agencies from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other international resource-rich cities to serve as council member units.

Overseas special council members and Chinese and foreign guests also visited the ShenZhong Link, Cuiheng New District's planning exhibition center and an exhibition showcasing Zhongshan's famous manufactured consumer goods.

Established in July 1989, the Zhongshan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries is a mass organization in Zhongshan engaged in people-to-people diplomacy.

Since its founding, the Association has established ties with 17 foreign friendly organizations and institutions. It has also promoted Zhongshan to establish sister-city relations with 5 foreign cities, friendship exchange city relations with 17 foreign cities, and friendly exchange mechanisms with counterpart units in more than 20 countries and regions.
