Zhongshan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January increased by 0.4% year-on-year and 0.6% month-on-month.
Food prices rose by 2.2%, while non-food prices leveled off. Prices of consumer goods increased by 0.6%, and service prices rose by 0.2%.
Food, tobacco and alcohol prices increased by 1.5% year-on-year. Specifically, pork prices surged by 16.1%, prices of other livestock meat and by-products rose by 12.7%, fresh vegetable prices increased by 11.6%, and freshwater fish prices went up by 5.7%. In contrast, dairy product prices fell by 7.9%, beef prices dropped by 5.0%, and edible oil prices decreased by 4.2%.
Among the other seven major categories of consumer prices, prices of other supplies and services rose by 4.1%, clothing prices increased by 2.9%, and prices of education, culture and entertainment edged up by 0.1%. Meanwhile, transportation and communication prices fell by 1.5%, housing prices dropped by 0.5%, and healthcare prices declined by 0.1%. Prices of household goods and services were flat.
