The fifth session of the 16th Zhongshan Municipal People's Congress opened at the Zhongshan Culture & Art Center on the morning of March 27.

Entrusted by the Zhongshan municipal government, vice mayor Ye Hongguang delivered the government work report.

The report reviewed the work of the past year. Notably, the economy showed steady progress, with the city's GDP reaching 414.3 billion yuan, and the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size rising 5.4% from a year earlier to 150 billion yuan.

The report outlined the main expected goals for this year's socio-economic development, including:

• 5.5% growth in GDP;

• Improved quality and efficiency in fixed-asset investment, 5% growth in total retail sales of consumer goods, and steady growth in total imports and exports;

• Over 6% growth in value-added of industrial enterprises above the designated size;

• 3% growth in general public budget revenue;

• Synchronized growth in per capita disposable income and economic growth, and about 2% growth in consumer price index;

• Over 45,000 new jobs created;

• Qualified air and surface water.
