The Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway project, which was approved on February 28, drew wide public attention.
With a construction period of 5 years, Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway will break ground this year. Upon completion, the railway will be connected with Guangzhou Metro Line 18 so that passengers can conveniently change to subway. It will take only 45 minutes to travel from downtown Zhongshan (Qijiang New Town) to downtown Guangzhou (Zhujiang New Town); via a reserved interface of the railway connected with Shenzhen in the east, passengers can reach Qianhai, Shenzhen by way of Cuiheng New District.
The 47.6-kilometer Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway will have 8 stations in Zhongshan. The line will stretch into Zhongshan via Xiangshan Station in Cuiheng New District, pass through Torch Development Zone, Qijiang New Town, Shiqi and East districts, and end at Xingzhong Station.
Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway will be subject to bus-like operation system, which means passengers can get on board after buying tickets and do not need to wait at a waiting room.
To facilitate public commuting in Zhongshan, intra-city commuter trains will be launched for Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway. From Xiangshan Station to Xingzhong Station, the travel time for 28.5 kilometers will not be more than 20 minutes.
