The U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) released the new member list on May 2, 2023 LT, and eight Chinese American scientists were on the list, including Professor Min Zhou from Zhongshan teaching at the Department of Sociology, University of California, Los Angeles.

Zhou is the only sociologist among the 120 members and 23 international members on this year's list, as well as the only liberal arts scholar among the eight Chinese Americans elected.
Back in April 2022, Zhou was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the only female sociologist of Chinese ancestry at the academy. Previously, she also won the 2017 Distinguished Career Award from the International Migration Section of the American Sociological Association (ASA) and the 2020 Contribution to the Field Award from the Asia and Asian America Section of ASA.

Min Zhou was born in Zhongshan. She graduated from the English Department of Sun Yat-sen University in 1982, started to study in the U.S. from 1984, and received her PhD degree in sociology from the State University of New York at Albany in 1989.
"Zhongshan was where my education started," she said, adding that her language advantage and cultural background as a Zhongshan native has been of great help to her research on overseas Chinese and community changes.
