The Hawaii Narcissus Queen delegation, led by Michael Young, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii whose ancestral home is Zhongshan's Shaxi Town, visited Chongtou Village in Shaxi Town to seek roots on the morning of November 17.
"We were informed a few days ago that the 2023 Narcissus Queen, whose ancestral home is Chongtou Village, was going to return home to seek roots," said Chongtou villagers proudly. Amid the lion dance performance and drumbeats, the delegation went to the ancestral house of Laura Ho, the latest Narcissus Queen.

In the century-old house, Laura, who can speak Chinese, kept talking with her grandmother in her 80s. Laura said she just graduated from college this year and she was very much looking forward to her first root-seeking trip.

Later, the delegation visited Longtouhuan Village, where Michael read through his family tree and worshiped his ancestors at the ancestral temple.
More than 10 delegation members are Chinese of Zhongshan descent. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii took this root-seeking trip as an opportunity to promote the non-governmental cultural exchange and affective communication between China and the United States, and to enhance the understanding of young ethnic Chinese about their ancestral country and hometown.
