On June 16, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link (ShenZhong Link) passed construction acceptance. More than 15,000 builders, after 7 years of preparation and 7 years of construction, created a global marvel in the construction of a cross-sea link.
In 2010, the preliminary office for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link was established. Over the first five years, the preliminary team conducted extensive research, including 52 thematic evaluations, comparison of 29 cross-river passage plans, and 19 navigational studies. The conditions for the construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link are extremely complex, and the team endured a lot of challenges.
In October 2015, the project team initiated an international competition for design proposals, drawing participation from renowned design agencies around the world. This competition helped incorporate balanced and harmonious architectural principles into the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, fostering a harmonious coexistence between the project and its natural and cultural environments.
In November 2019, the first section of the immersed tunnel for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link was cast.
In June 2020, the first section of the immersed tunnel was successfully positioned and connected.
More than 15,000 builders from over 60 construction units worked at 122 construction sites at height, on the sea, and underwater.
From the first main pier pile drilled in September 2018 to the final connection in 2023, the construction team overcame numerous challenges, including full marine operations, complex construction conditions, and frequent typhoons, ultimately erecting the majestic Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge.
"Building a centennial gateway for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" -- this is the slogan of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link project and the commitment of its builders. Unafraid of the vast depths of the sea, they have demonstrated Chinese engineering, speed, standards and spirit through their intelligence and hard work.
