Wu Yuankang, a junior high school student of Zhongshan Sports School, won the gold medal in Group B of men's pole vault at the 2021 Guangdong Junior Track and Field Championship in Zhaoqing on July 22, with a score of 4.80 meters hitting a personal new high.
After the game, Wu posted his acceptance speech on WeChat moments: "My gratitude goes to my coach for the training in the past 4 years, my parents for their support, and my teammates for their care. In the future, I will strive for the better and push my limits!"
Wu's family are migrants to Zhongshan. Born here in June 2005, he fell for sports since childhood, and he was talented in running and jumping.
In 2019, Wu debuted in the track and field competition and won the third place in the Group C of men's of 100m hurdle race in Guangdong Youth Track and Field Championship. In 2020, he reached the second level of pole vault and won the fourth place in Group B.
