The inaugural ceremony of a Chinese exchange program between Zhongshan and Chile's Chillan was held online on March 15.

The Zhongshan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Zhongshan Polytechnic (ZSPT) signed an agreement with Chillan's education authority, and the Chinese exchange program will be carried out this school year by ZSPT and Liceo de República de Italia in Chillan. Nineteen students in Chillan will study Chinese under the guidance of ZSPT teachers and learn about Chinese culture and China's latest socio-economic development.

In December 2022, Zhongshan and Chillan signed a memorandum to establish a city partnership for friendly exchanges and cooperation.
