Zhou Yanmin, a young singer, has been doing her best in inheriting and promoting Zhongshan salt-water songs. She won various awards, including the Golden Prize in National Fisherman’s Song Tournament and the Golden Prize in 2016 Pearl River Delta(Zhongshan) Folk Song Tournament. She even brought the salt-water song to the largest stage in China by participating in CCTV Chinese Folk Song Competition.
As one of the unique form of folk songs in Guangdong, the salt-water songs gain great popularity among peasants and fishermen in Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Panyu and Nanhai, among which Tanzhou Town in Zhongshan is the most representative area. The Song is officially listed in the first patch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage approved by the State Council on 20th May, 2006.
