At the first session of the 12th CPPCC Zhongshan Committee on January 1, 56 members proposed to build an Olympic center of between 40 to 47 hectares in Cuiheng New Area. The present Xingzhong Stadium and Xingzhong Sports Ground were built specially for the 1st World Women’s Football Championship in 1991. Some facilities have become run-down and in serious need of repair if Zhongshan intends to host a large outdoor sports event.

An Olympic center in Zhongshan counts much to the overall fitness strategy, the potential of sports events and physical fitness of people in Zhongshan. The provincial sports bureau is glad to see Zhongshan host the provincial sports meeting in 2022. An advanced, well-equipped venue is in urgent need before hosting such a big event. The present facilities are insufficient before more investment in improving projects or new venues.
