New modern Cantonese opera The Breeze Rises from Guangdong, one of the tour shows of the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival, was performed at the Grand Theater of Zhongshan Culture & Art Center on July 25.
Based on the establishment of Shenzhen Shekou Industrial Zone and its founder Yuan Geng, the opera unfolds the contradiction and conflict centered on the "disputes over bonus of 4 cents" during the construction of Shekou Ferry Terminal. It tells the moving story of the first generation of entrepreneurs represented by Yang Rushan, who broke through various thought confinements and exploited a new path to strengthen the country and enrich the people, and eulogizes the pioneering spirit of the reform and opening-up fore-runners.
The Breeze Rises from Guangdong is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism through the 2018 Script Supporting Program.
