2021-12-30

Traffic police department in Zhongshan on December 28 issued travel tips for the coming New Year's Day holiday. It is estimated that there will be three peak traffic congestion periods affecting 21 road sections during the three-day holiday, and citizens are encouraged to stagger their travel times.

The traffic police predicted that traffic will see increased congestion starting from 13:00 on December 31, with the majority of outgoing traffic peaking from 23:00 on December 31 to 1:00 on January 1 and from 9:00 to 12:00 on January 1. Traffic is expected to also face peak congestion from 15:00 to 19:00 on January 3 as citizens return home.

Traffic congestion on some national and provincial highways, popular scenic spots, and large business districts will also increase significantly, possibly leading to traffic jams. Areas like the northbound-southbound section of Fuhua Overpass on National Highway G105, the westbound section of Shalangchong Bridge on Shagu Highway, the northbound-southbound section of Shakou Bridge on National Highway G105 in Xiaolan Town, and the northbound section of Xijiao Bridge on National Highway G105 in Dongfeng Town may all be affected.

The scenic spots that may see increased traffic volume include Zimaling Park (westbound section of Bo'ai Sixth Road auxiliary section), Jinzhong Lake Park (or Zhongshan Children's Park) (southbound section of Dongyuan South Road), the Museum of Dr Sun Yat-sen (southbound section of Cuiheng Avenue, Nanlang Town), Cuiheng National Wetland Park (Nanchong Street, Tsuihang New District), and Tianxin Forest Park (Cuishan Road).

According to traffic accident data from previous years, the three most accident-prone expressway zones in Zhongshan are the southbound section of G4W Guangzhou-Macao Expressway (downtown to Cuiheng), the northbound section of the G4W Guangzhou-Macao Expressway (Minzhong Service Area to Hengli Bridge section), and the Henglan to Jiangmen's Xijiang River Bridge section of the G2518 Shenzhen-Cenxi Expressway.

The Zhongshan Traffic Police remind everyone that during the New Year's Day holiday, expressway tolls will be charged normally. Real-time traffic information will be released through navigation software, radio programs, Weibo and WeChat.
