As the Longxing North Road flyover was put into use on the afternoon of January 14, the main line of Guzhen Expressway opened to traffic. In the future, the driving time from North Outer Ring Road to Henglan Town will be shortened from 40 minutes to about 10 minutes.
The 16.3-kilometer Guzhen Expressway began construction in June 2020. Its main line is designed and built according to first-class highway and urban expressway standards. It has six lanes in either direction with a speed limit of 80 km/h, and its auxiliary roads have four lanes with a speed limit of 40 km/h.
The remaining works on auxiliary roads would be completed before the Spring Festival, and Guzhen Expressway is expected to fully open to traffic in March.
"At present, two intersections in Guzhen are under renovation," said a staff member of Zhongshan Transportation Group, adding that upon their completion, the driving time from Zhongshan downtown areas to Guzhen will be shortened to 20 minutes.
