On May 24, the maritime public security checkpoint for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was put into operation. Activities including the maritime seizure tactics training, boat patrol and an anti-smuggling exhibition were held concurrently.
The checkpoint is an important shield against maritime risks. Located at the Hengmen exit water area, it will serve as a major stationing point, assembly point, and supply point for marine officers on duty. Police are deployed for 24/7 operation to strengthen patroling at the Hengmen and Hongqili exits, and in the waters around Ma'an Island.
Recent years have seen a plunge in smuggling as Zhongshan's anti-smuggling departments have carried out a series of special operations to combat the smuggling of frozen goods and refined oil in addition to preventing other illegal maritime crimes.
